Major FPSO Competency Assurance Program - Case Study
Goal
The EUTEX Training Academy was appointed as the Training & Competency Assessment provider for Electrical Personnel constructing a major FPSO project.
A VLCC was being converted in Singapore for operation in Guyana where first oil was successfully produced on time – the competencies gained being a contributory factor to efficient compliant operations.
The Challenge
EUTEX had to implement a robust ‘Ex’ Competency program following the requirements of IEC 60079 – Explosive atmospheres – Part 14: Electrical installations design, selection and erection
This standard contains specific requirements for the design, selection, erection and initial inspection of electrical installations in, or associated with, potentially explosive atmospheres
EUTEX delivered a program to cover the personal competencies required.
Our Approach
On successful completion candidates will understand:
- General Principles of Explosion Protection
- General Principles of Protection Types and Marking
- Aspects of Equipment Design that affect the protection concept
- Content of Certificates and Relevant Parts of IEC 60079-14 & IEC 60079-14
- The Importance of Permit to Work Systems and Safe Isolation
And be Familiar with the Techniques for Selection and Erection of ‘Ex’ Equipment
This training involves the CompEx Scheme, which is the recognised global scheme for the protection of workers and assets in both offshore and onshore activities. The scheme assesses the competency of personnel who are working in environments with the potential risk of explosive atmospheres -The CompEx Certification Body is accredited by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17024 : 2012.
